In today's turn of events, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino may have inadvertently revealed significant aspirations within the ODM party during a lunchtime meeting that gained attention after photos circulated online. Prominent figures such as Millie Odhiambo and Senator Edwin Sifuna hinted at reconciliation and casual catch-ups, but it was Babu Owino's emphatic declaration, "NDC Now," that stood out. This phrase refers to the National Delegates Convention, the highest decision-making body of the ODM party, typically convened to either elect new leadership or ratify a consequential party decision

The gathering, attended by the two Nairobi legislators and the National Assembly minority whip, also included notable political figures such as Governor James Orengo, Turkana South MP Hon. Namoit, Senators Mumma and Crystal Asige, as well as Ruth Odinga, Peter Imwatok, Reuben Ndolo, Amos Wako, Edwin Ngonga, and John Andiwo.

Babu's social media post suggested that the participants engaged in discussions surrounding the impending National Delegates Conference, focusing on who should succeed the party leadership amidst growing calls for change.

It's essential to recall that during the ODM@20 celebrations in Mombasa last November, Winnie Odinga openly questioned Senator Oburu Oginga's capability to lead the party after Raila Odinga's death. This public skepticism has been echoed by Babu Owino and, more recently, Edwin Sifuna, who have urged the party to consider new leadership, frequently framing their appeals within the rhetoric of "What would Raila have done?"

As speculation mounts regarding potential candidates to replace Dr Oburu Oginga, whispers within political circles suggest Dr Ida Odinga as a possible contender, while there is also a resurgent call from coast-based supporters advocating for CS Hassan Joho.

Adding another layer of intrigue is Ruth Odinga's presence within this faction; her motivations and potential role in these discussions raise questions about whether she is actively supporting efforts to oust her older brother from a leadership position in the party. The unfolding dynamics within the ODM party hint at a critical juncture in its future direction, as various factions manoeuvre for influence and leadership in a post-Raila landscape.
