The Homa Bay County Executive for Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Solomon Obiero, along with a team of professionals from Kibiri Ward, has initiated a bursary fund designed to support over one thousand students in the area starting this year.
The fund, named the Auma Nyagoro Education Fund Bursary, is organized by the Auma Nyagoro Welfare Association (ANWA) and is now accepting applications from potential beneficiaries.
Dr Rev. Zachary O. Opapa, the chairperson of the fund, announced in a statement to the media that the Education and Skills Development Committee of ANWA is inviting applications from needy and deserving students within Kibiri Ward. The inaugural bursary aims to assist between 800 to 1,000 learners. Eligible applicants can download application forms or collect them from the ODM office in Kandiege. The statement encourages parents, guardians, and students in genuine need to apply, highlighting the fund's objective to support access to education and foster the future of the community, which is closely linked to the historical figure Auma Nyagoro.
Completed application forms should be returned to the ODM office in Kandiege, ensuring that applicants fill out the submission list and include their submission number on the form. Cheques for qualifying applicants will be distributed on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Samanga Primary School playground.
This bursary initiative comes shortly after Mr Obiero hosted the inaugural sports tournament under the same name, where the Green Bentos team secured the championship title at the Kadiege Stadium in Kibiri Ward.
Auma Nyagoro is recognized as the ancestral matriarch of Kibiri Ward, and these initiatives celebrate the area’s subclans: Kauma, Nyadipir, and Wadhgone, emphasizing their shared heritage and promoting unity for future generations.
